One of the biggest questions I get as a Los Angeles proposal photographer is, “Where should I propose?” Los Angeles certainly gives us plenty of choices. You could propose on the beach, overlooking the ocean, at a beautiful hotel, or somewhere with incredible city views. But before I start suggesting locations, I always ask one question: Is there somewhere that already means something to both of you?
For Antoine, the answer was easy. Five years earlier, he and Soma met at Griffith Park for a hike. When he started planning his proposal, he knew he wanted to bring her back to where their relationship began.
A Proposal at Griffith Park Where They First Met
Antoine found me on Google while planning the surprise, and his plan for the evening was simple and very personal. He was taking Soma to her favorite vegan restaurant for dinner. Before their reservation, they headed to Griffith Park.
This time, though, it wasn’t just another hike. At the place where they had first met five years earlier, Antoine got down on one knee and proposed with a simple silver band. After she said yes, they celebrated with champagne and we took photos together around the park. I love that he didn’t feel like he needed an elaborate setup! The location itself was part of their story.
How to Choose a Meaningful Proposal Location
Your proposal location doesn’t need to be the most famous or dramatic place in Los Angeles. Think about the places that are already part of your relationship. Where did you first meet? Where was your first date? Do you have a favorite hike, park, restaurant, or beach? Is there somewhere you return to over and over again?
Those places can make a proposal feel much more personal. Of course, meaningful doesn’t always mean easy to photograph. Once you have an idea, I can help you think through the photography side of the plan. We’ll consider the time of day, lighting, crowds, privacy, and exactly where I should be waiting. That way, we can keep the surprise while making sure the moment is beautifully documented.
