Some proposals are grand, some are intimate, and some—like Hayley and Johns—are so perfectly planned that they feel like a scene from a movie. Visiting Los Angeles for the Grammys, Hayley had no idea that this trip would be even more unforgettable. As a Grammys member, she was preparing for an exciting weekend, and her fiancé (a financial professional with serious planning skills!) had the most romantic surprise waiting for her.
With the stunning Los Angeles skyline as their backdrop, he pulled off the perfect rooftop proposal in Downtown LA. And I was lucky enough to photograph every moment!
A Picture-Perfect Surprise
John planned every detail of this rooftop proposal with precision. John wanted an elevated setting (literally!) with breathtaking city views. So, I suggested a helipad in Downtown Los Angeles, an iconic, cinematic location that offers unmatched panoramic views of the city. Luckily, the USC Building in South Park, Los Angeles, was available on the date he had in mind.
But the setting was only part of the plan. To keep the proposal a complete surprise, he told Hayley that his company was hosting a small private gathering on the helipad, followed by a helicopter tour over LA. To make it even more convincing, he handcrafted a fake waiver form for her to sign upon arrival. He also convinced her to wear the dress she planned to wear at the Grammys the next day. It was a smart move that made the moment even more magical.
When they arrived, I greeted them professionally, played along with the script, and checked them in for the “event.” I then offered to take them up to the helipad before everyone else arrived, giving them a chance to see the incredible view.
As the city stretched out behind them, bathed in the dreamy cotton candy hues of sunset, he got down on one knee and asked the question that would change their lives forever. Hayley’s reaction was pure joy and disbelief. She was completely surprised! The combination of the skyline views, the golden hour light, and the deep emotions made for an unforgettable moment.
