Komal and Gursimran’s proposal on El Matador Beach was picture-perfect! This beach is one of the best proposal spots in Malibu, known for its dramatic cliffs and rock formations. The natural caves and arches make for gorgeous backdrops—not to mention the sparkling Pacific Ocean! It’s truly a photographer’s dream.
Gursimran arranged for a local picnic planning company, The Picnic Collective, to set up an intimate, luxurious area for the couple to relax after the big moment. The boho-inspired design featured a delicate lace tent with cozy blankets, throw pillows, and rattan chairs for seating. Meanwhile, twinkling cafe lights added a touch of whimsy to the surroundings. With a delicious spread of cheese, crackers, fruit, and cookies, it was the perfect place for the happy couple to unwind!

Komal and Gursimran visited SoCal from Toronto for Komal’s nephew’s birthday party. Komal didn’t expect to do anything but visit family while on the trip, so Gursimran’s proposal was a complete surprise! Since they were from out of town, Gursimran asked for my advice on a beach proposal location. I’ve been living and photographing events in L.A. for over a decade, so I know the best spots. I suggested a proposal on El Matador Beach because I knew it would have the “wow” factor Gursimran was looking for!
When it was time for the big moment, I hid on the beach below as Gursimran led Komal down a flight of stairs to the romantic picnic he’d planned for her. Immediately, her face had the biggest smile as she began to figure out what was happening! Once they stood beside the ocean, Gursimran knelt and asked Komal to marry him.
The ring he chose featured a stunning emerald cut diamond on a slim gold band—Komal couldn’t stop admiring it for the rest of the afternoon! Afterward, the couple sat and enjoyed their picnic while I captured every moment. Then, we snapped a few more oceanside portraits before it was time for the lovebirds to head home!
