As a photographer based in Los Angles, I sometimes get the honor of shooting at Award Ceremonies around LA! Last summer, I photographed the 2nd Annual Hollywood Critics Association Awards. And this year I came back to photograph their 3rd Award Ceremony!
The Hollywood Critics Association focuses on a diverse critics group, that supports underrepresented voices. They are the first critic group to separate directions honors by gender, allowing the power of female filmmakers to be embraced! In fact, it’s Olivia Wilde’s favorite award show! Wilde was a huge winner of this night, taking home three awards. This included the Trailblazer Award for her directorial debut.
Some of the winners included the movie “1917” by Sam Mandes for Best Picture. Joaquin Phoenix as Best Actor for “Joker”. And Lupita Nyong’o for Best Actress in “Us”. Han Jin-won and Bong Joon Ho were also big winners for their movie, “Parasite”. They took home the Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film honors.
The award ceremony took place at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood. This huge space is perfect for all events – including weddings! After the guests walked the red carpet, they headed inside to the large ballroom. In particular, this space has cool ambient lighting, which allows the room to change moods quickly. Overall, it was an incredible night for all who attended!
