Deacon Ordination at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

Events

As a Los Angeles event photographer with more than 20 years of experience, there are few things more meaningful to me than photographing events steeped in history, tradition, and reverence. One of the most significant? The Deacon Ordination at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. This sacred event brings together years of spiritual preparation and community support, resulting in a deeply symbolic ceremony.

I’ve had the honor of photographing this event for two decades, and every year it reminds me why I do this work. When it comes to sacred events like these, photography isn’t just about being in the right place at the right time. It’s about understanding the deeper meaning of each moment, respecting the customs of the church, and knowing how to move with quiet presence throughout the day. I know exactly where to be for each moment, from the procession to the laying on of hands, the final blessings, and every sacred ritual in between.

That familiarity means I can anticipate each step without asking questions or interrupting the service. I know how to capture the beauty of the ceremony while honoring the space. I know when to step back and when to lean in. And perhaps most importantly, I know how to photograph respectfully, staying invisible while documenting these deeply emotional moments.

A Multi-Day Celebration of Faith and Leadership

The ordination itself is the culmination of years of preparation. For the deacons and their families, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment. I photographed the event over the course of two days, beginning with the rehearsal and continuing through the full ordination day. We started with portraits, quiet, joy-filled moments with their wives who have supported each deacon through their journey. From there, the rehearsal allowed us to map out the ceremony. And then came the ceremony itself, full of scripture, song, prayer, and the powerful moment of laying on of hands, as the church recognizes each man for his new leadership role.

Los Angeles Event Photographer

As a photographer, I believe that storytelling doesn’t stop at the frame. It’s in the way you approach an event, how you connect with the people you’re photographing, and the sensitivity you bring to the space. Whether I’m photographing a luxury brand event, a family celebration, or a sacred ordination, that care and presence remain the same. The Deacon Ordination is a celebration not just of those being appointed, but of the entire congregation. It’s a moment of reflection, joy, and recognition of God’s provision of faithful leadership. I’m honored to witness it—and to tell its story—year after year!

If you’re planning a religious ceremony, cultural celebration, or meaningful milestone, I would love to help you document it with the same care and respect I bring to every event. With more than 20 years of experience photographing weddings, events, and sacred traditions across Los Angeles, I understand how to honor your customs while capturing the moments that matter most.
