I was delighted to team up with Amazing Grace Design to photograph their incredible work planning this luxury private home wedding in Malibu! Although this event happened right in the bride and groom’s backyard, it was impeccably designed, complete with a custom tent.
Private home weddings initially grew in popularity during the pandemic. However, this trend doesn’t show signs of falling out of favor anytime soon! The hard work of planning teams like Amazing Grace Designs has shown that exchanging vows at home can be just as glamorous as tying the knot at a traditional venue. That was especially true at this home in Malibu, with the in-ground infinity pool, miniature golf course, and sweeping views!
The details from weddings like this one have become some of my favorites to photograph. So, today, I’m sharing some tips for recreating the look of this private home wedding in Malibu in your own space!
Use the Whole Space
For this private home wedding, the team at Amazing Grace Design utilized the entire backyard. They created various places for guests to mingle, including lounge furniture, hightops, and a grazing table. Moreover, they worked with the space instead of against it, creating an organic layout using the curves of the put-put golf course and embellishing the pool with floating gold and white balloons. They didn’t overlook a single aspect of the space to ensure everything felt elegant and inviting!
Cohesive Details
While this wedding design primarily featured shades of white and cream, a few pops of color elevated the design and tied everything together. Gold accents wove throughout the design, from the hightops beside the pool to the place settings inside the tent. Even the couple’s custom cocktail stirrers glittered gold! Meanwhile, emerald lounge seating on the patio added an unexpected colorful element while still blending beautifully with the surrounding foliage.
Embrace Variety
There’s still room for variety in a cohesive design, which can add to the upscale feel of your at-home wedding! The Amazing Grace Design team planned the layout of this tented reception using long farm tables mixed with circular ones. That simple choice did so much to freshen the space! Not only did it permit subtle variety on the tablescapes, but it also allowed for a more organic layout in the rectangular-shaped tent that didn’t obscure the showstopping checkered dance floor.
Unique and Personalized Elements
Your home is YOUR space, so don’t feel like you have to have a cookie-cutter wedding if you prefer to embrace your one-of-a-kind style! This couple made a bold statement by renting big letters that spelled their name in lights behind the head table. The unexpected design element instantly elevated the space and set their wedding apart. Remember, with an at-home wedding, you can design the event of your dreams without any venue restrictions. So, feel free to let your imagination run wild!
