Los Angeles is famous for its endless coastline, golden sunsets, and iconic views, which makes it the perfect place to pop the question. As a proposal photographer, I’ve had the honor of documenting some of the most emotional, thoughtful, and unforgettable moments along the Southern California coast. Whether you’re dreaming of toes-in-the-sand romance or a scenic overlook framed by cliffs and crashing waves, these four real-life proposals show the variety (and magic!) of LA’s oceanfront spots. From Santa Monica to Palos Verdes, here are some of the best ocean view spots to propose in Los Angeles.
Granada Beach – A Sentimental Favorite
Sarah & Jack chose Granada Beach, a special place from their relationship’s early days. They’d had many casual picnics here, so when Jack found me on Google to help photograph the moment, it felt perfectly full-circle.
Granada Beach is a laid-back and often overlooked gem in Long Beach. And if you’re a dog lover, it’s even better. Rosie’s Dog Beach is nearby and allows off-leash fun, making it an ideal place to propose with your pup in tow. Sunset light, ocean breeze, and your favorite memories? Yes, please!

Terranea Beach – Luxury & Romance in Palos Verdes
If you want cinematic romance, Terranea Beach delivers. Zijan and Nicholas were visiting from San Francisco for their anniversary when he decided to propose. He enlisted Veronica from Events by Amor to design one of the most beautiful setups I’ve ever seen! Lush roses, pillar candles, and a beachside view that felt straight out of a dream.
Nicholas proposed with a Harry Winston emerald diamond while wiping away her tears. Terranea is one of LA’s most popular proposal locations for a reason: it’s intimate, scenic, and full of luxury touches. (Bonus: you can stay for dinner at the Terranea Resort!)

Palos Verdes Bluffs – A Hidden Gem
Eleni & Amanuel’s proposal story is one of my absolute favorites. They were both in Washington, DC for a business trip, and when it ended, Eleni flew to Los Angeles alone to visit friends, completely unaware of what was coming next. Amanuel dropped her off at the airport that morning, kissed her goodbye, and then quietly boarded a different flight later that night, flying across the country just to surprise her.
The following day, Eleni’s friend drove her to what she thought was a casual stop along the coast. Instead, she arrived to a breathtaking ocean-view setup in Palos Verdes, where Amanuel was waiting. The setup featured a heart made of white roses, tall glass pillars, and hundreds of scattered petals, all overlooking the Pacific at golden hour.
Palos Verdes has so many lesser-known ocean view spots, tucked into quiet bluffs with easy access and parking. It’s just far enough from the city to feel secluded, but still close to restaurants like Mar’sel to celebrate after.
Santa Monica – Ocean Views and City Vibes
After 7 years together, Viktorya & Nick took a stroll through Palisades Park for what she thought was a simple photoshoot. With sweeping views of the Santa Monica Pier and ocean below, it’s one of LA’s most iconic (and accessible) ocean-facing locations. Nick timed the moment perfectly! Proposing during their walk, while I was ready with my camera nearby. She was totally surprised, and they left for vacation the next day, newly engaged and full of joy. It was relaxed, personal, and full of heart.
