A Pastel Carnival First Birthday Celebration in Los Angeles

Kids

One of my favorite parts of being a lifestyle photographer is photographing a family more than once. You start to recognize faces, energy, and the way people interact. I photographed Alana’s baby shower not too long ago, so being invited back to document her first birthday felt like such a full-circle moment.

And what a way to celebrate it was! Alana’s first birthday was transformed into a pastel carnival dream, set right in their backyard in Los Angeles. From the moment you walked in, it felt playful, colorful, and completely designed for both kids and adults to enjoy.

A Carnival First Birthday Party Designed for Play

This wasn’t just a themed party. It was an experience! Every detail was thoughtfully designed by A Prestige Planning, with custom fabrication by Bloom Box Designs who brought the entire carnival concept to life. The setup felt immersive in the best way. There were games everywhere! Pick-a-duck, ring toss, balloon pop, and ball toss. And a full wall of toys where kids could choose something to take home.

You could tell immediately that this was a party built around joy and movement. Kids weren’t just attending, they were fully part of it. There were bounce houses, a ball pit, balloon animals, and even circus performers weaving through the crowd. It felt like a true carnival, with a pastel palette of pink, lavender, and yellow tying everything together.

The design carried through every part of the celebration. Curved tables were lined with pastel florals, mini carousel details, and the sweetest pink ticket accents. Nothing felt overdone, but nothing was overlooked either. It’s always those small details that photograph so beautifully and give a party its personality.

For the adults, there was a relaxed lounge setup and a full food experience that felt just as considered as the kids’ side. While the kids enjoyed their favorite foods, the adults had a Brazilian BBQ station and a flatbread station, which added such a great balance to the day.

What I loved most about this celebration wasn’t just the design or the activities, but the community. Families gathered, kids running around freely, parents actually able to enjoy themselves, and little Alana at the center of it all. It is always meaningful to document these early milestones. First birthdays go by quickly, and having these memories preserved matters more than you think. Being there to photograph this, after already documenting the start of this chapter at her baby shower, was something I don’t take lightly.

Whether it’s a first birthday, baby shower, or a backyard celebration, these moments deserve to be remembered. If you’re planning a party in Los Angeles and want photography that captures both the details and the feeling of the day, I’d love to be there.
