As a Los Angeles proposal photographer, there are so many places I love to shoot at. But one of my favorites is Point Dume in Malibu! Point Dume is truly one of Malibu’s most iconic gems. A scenic bluff overlooking the Pacific, nestled between headlands, hidden coves, and a wide open beach. It’s part of a protected Marine Area, which means it’s not only stunning, but preserved and peaceful.
From the parking lot, the walk to the lookout takes about ten minutes. The trail is mostly soft sand with gentle inclines, and it’s incredibly easy to access when you know where to go, which is exactly why you’ll want someone like me to help plan it all. For Bejum and Noah, this location was perfect for their Malibu beach proposal!
Bejum & Noah’s Sunset Surprise
The couple arrived at Point Dume State Beach under the guise of taking a sunset walk up to the overlook. The breeze had just the right chill in the air, the sun was beginning to dip behind the ocean, and the moment felt completely their own. And just when Bejum thought it was another peaceful evening by the water, Noah got down on one knee! I was hidden nearby, ready and waiting with my camera.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed trying to figure out how to plan the perfect proposal, know this: you don’t have to do it alone. As a professional proposal photographer in Los Angeles, I’ve helped dozens of clients plan and document their proposals, from location logistics to timing and hiding spots. I know you’re nervous (most people are!), but I’ll walk you through everything, so when the moment comes, all you have to focus on is your partner and the moment.

A Few Ways to Make Your Malibu Beach Proposal Even More Meaningful
Bring Champagne & Glasses: Tuck a bottle of bubbly and a pair of glasses into a bag or picnic basket so you can toast right after the proposal.
Plan a Romantic Dinner Nearby: Avoid the LA traffic and keep the night flowing by making a dinner reservation close by. Some of my favorite local spots are:
- Nobu Malibu: If you’re looking for the ultimate oceanside experience, Nobu Malibu delivers. With sleek modern interiors, panoramic views of the Pacific, and world-renowned Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, it’s as much about the ambiance as the food.
- Mastro’s Ocean Club: A refined steakhouse with a Malibu twist, Mastro’s Ocean Club is perfect if you’re craving fine dining with classic service. It has a beautiful oceanfront location, but the vibe is cozy and intimate.
- Geoffrey’s Malibu: A Malibu icon, Geoffrey’s combines sweeping views with tropical landscaping and romantic ambience. You’ll dine on the outdoor terrace surrounded by palm trees, and the sound of waves crashing below.
- Saddle Peak Lodge: Tucked into the Santa Monica Mountains, Saddle Peak Lodge is rustic in the most luxurious way. It’s an unexpected and romantic escape from the coast—perfect if you want a change of scenery after your beachside proposal.
